Millennium Garages is the largest downtown public underground parking system in North America. It encompasses four facilities, over 9000 spaces, and 3.8 million square feet of space.
As part of preparing a Millennium Garage location for inspection and approval by the City of Chicago, the team encountered an unexpected technical obstacle. A particular vehicle triggered a fault in the charging hardware, raising concerns that the garage would not meet inspection standards in time. With limited time before the city’s review, there was urgency to both diagnose and resolve the issue rapidly.
Upon learning of the issue on a Thursday, EVPassport’s engineering and operations teams sprang into action. Within a single day, the team developed a new software patch—referred to as a “hatch”—designed specifically to bypass or neutralize the fault being triggered by the vehicle. To validate the fix, the team rented a Ford EV vehicle that was previously known to reproduce the error. After applying the update, the charging unit functioned successfully.
The unit was then physically updated onsite and prepared for reinspection.
Following the software and hardware updates, the garage was reinspected by the City of Chicago and passed the evaluation. This fast-tracked fix not only ensured compliance but also demonstrated EVPassport’s commitment to agile problem-solving and white-glove service. The success of this rapid turnaround has further strengthened the partnership with Millennium Garages and paves the way for continued collaboration as they expand their EV infrastructure footprint.
